Choosing where to start when you decide to begin decluttering can be overwhelming and may even lead us to procrastination which leads to more clutter building up making it even more overwhelming than it was before.

Get Inspired to Declutter without feeling overwhelmed with these Quotes and Ideas.

“What I know for sure is that when you declutter - whether it's your home, your head, or your heart - it is astounding what will flow into that space that will enrich you, your life and your family.” – Peter Walsh

My favourite piece of advice I have ever come across when it comes to de-cluttering is this quote by William Morris (1834-1896)

Quote in a frame of decorated wooden buttons.

Have nothing in your house that you do not KNOW to be USEFUL or BELIEVE to be BEAUTIFUL.

I believe we should always make things as easy and simple as possible for ourselves whilst we are creating the life we want. Here are some tips I have picked up along the way:

· Don’t try and do it all in one go. Pick one room, or one cupboard, or even just one drawer.

· Go through the items one by one and put into piles:

1. Keep in same room, cupboard, drawer

2. Keep but put away somewhere else

3. Give to charity/sell on marketplace

4. Throw away / trash / rubbish

5. Too hard to make a choice right now

· Go with your gut, and if you’re not sure ask yourself ‘how would I feel if I didn’t have this in my life?’

If you don’t feel strong attachment to it and it’s not useful then you probably don’t need it or even want it in your life.

Important note:

If it is too distressing to make the decision on one or two items, put them in a box and label it ‘to sort later’. It really is not worth getting yourself too distressed or to use up too much of your time on a few items. As you become more used to making these decisions you can revisit the ‘to sort later’ box and you may find it much easier to decide what is best to do with them.

As the piles get bigger, grab a bag or a box and put the charity items in your car ready to drop off, put the trash/rubbish in a bin bag ready for collection day. Items that need to be put away in another room, cupboard or drawer, take them there and find their new home, items staying put need to be put tidily away.

Take your time (but not too much time) and keep going until it’s done. If you need to take a break, take one, but then get right back to it. Put on some music and make it into an enjoyable experience, feel yourself getting lighter as you discard all the items that are no longer useful or beautiful to you.

Every time you complete decluttering an area of your home, remember to stand back and admire your achievement. Enjoy the clean and tidy space as it will inspire you to do other areas in your home, before you know it you will have de-cluttered your entire home and not only that but there is a good chance that you have even begun to enjoy the process. Which is great, as when you enjoy doing something it becomes easier to do, you may find yourself doing regular mini de-clutters to stop yourself from ever becoming cluttered again.
